stop being mediocre: add character with mill work
April 9th, 2018 | by Elizabeth| Posted in construction | #bookcases, #built-ins, #carpentry, #design, #mill work, #trimI’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- one of the largest return on investments you can have in your home is with custom trim and built-in elements. Stop being mediocre and add character with mill work!
I spoke about mill work most recently in this post, but because we’ve been doing SO many custom features lately, I thought I’d share a few and let you see just how much a custom feature can add to a space.
This is the stage wall at my church, Providence United Methodist in Mt. Juliet. After finalizing a design, we had 4 x 8 MDF laser-cut on a computerized commercial machine to make these panels. We then painted out the panels in a semi-gloss finish of the new paint color specified for the wall, and look what a statement it makes.
This decorative wall treatment is approximately 24′ long by 13′ high. You can get a true read of the scale of it by how small Freddie looks beside it!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this built-in, and it’s going to be the next thing I do in MY home! This custom daybed and built-in bookshelves are the perfect place to read and relax!!
Need a bench with some cubbies?? We can do that too-
You have to excuse these cell phone pics my trim carpenter took- but you get the idea! He has mad carpentry skills, but he’s gonna have to work on his photography, lol. Isn’t this feature wall fab??
and this fireplace surround and bookcases?? LOVE!
Think you’d have a hard time getting the kiddos to do their homework if they had a space like THIS to work in?? Please, oh please, give me a spot like this!!!
And lest we forget this STUNNER of a basement storage space we custom designed for our client!! CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE having this kinda storage?? oh, and the bench seat is made from barn wood that my client just ran out on the farm and pulled from her grandmother’s barn….yeah, she’s just THAT cool! and talk about character??? THIS is something you will never see in any other home! If you missed the complete blog post about this space, you can see more of it here.
So these are just a few examples of how you can add individuality and interest in your own home. If you can dream it, we can do it! And believe it or not, the cost is minimal for the impact that can be made in a space.
Give me a call and let’s talk about how we can up YOUR mill work game!
