Christmas Decor Tips & Holiday Home Tour

So- this will be a bit different post than usual.  I thought it would be fun to go back and share the one and only time I did a “Holiday Home Tour” on the blog.  And y’all.
I’m SO glad I wrote this post!

This is from 2018, and going back and reading it brings back so many memories.  It also reminds me of the importance of photographs.

Because my house no longer looks like this.
Not at all.

The only thing that is remotely close is the dining room.  Other than that, it’s pretty dramatically different.

Where my big tree sat in my foyer is now the home of our baby grand piano.  So I no longer have that tree.  And I miss it so much.  The foyer is the only place in our home that had tall enough ceilings for it.

But as my office expanded, I had to move our piano out of the living room and the only place that was large enough was the foyer.

We have a big foyer y’all.

And also?

My babies’ tree with all their little ornaments.  I miss that so much, but we only have room for so many trees, and my kiddos think it looks too childish.

But ya know what?  I think I will do that tree again next year, I don’t care what they say.  Because that’s what Christmas is all about.  Memories♥

So take a little stroll with me through my Christmas house of 5 years ago.  And if you have time, share some pics of your decor with me- I love seeing them!

See y’all in the new year…….

Merry Christmas, y’all! Ah, I just love this time of year. Don’t you feel the excitement building? Have you put up your decor yet? Set out the Christmas tableware? Sent Santa an invite?

If not, don’t worry — there’s still plenty of time! Which is why I’m sharing this post with you now…

Christmas is always a big deal at my house. Not just because I’m a designer and delight in any excuse to decorate, but because Christmas has so much meaning for me and my family. It’s a time for celebration, gratitude, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

While it’s true that you don’t need to decorate to appreciate one another, I’ve also seen firsthand (throughout every season of the year) how an environment can influence mood, behavior and, yes, making family memories!

So if you are lucky enough to be able to decorate this year, I say GO FOR IT.

To help inspire and entertain you, I’m taking you on a little walk through my own house… come on in!

Welcome to our home!

This is my “adult” tree… the one that I get to style to my designer-heart’s content. I love the way it welcomes guests (and us!) as soon as we open the front door. Brings a little thrill of joy to my heart each time I see it.

Decor Tip: I love using layers of tulle to make trees look instantly fuller and more glamorous!

I combined my favorite ornaments, tiny gold lights, and tinsel!

Decor Tip: When red and green don’t work well with your decor, a little silver and gold will add plenty of Christmas spirit.

My kids will tell you that Santa’s always welcome at our house. 😉

Our formal dining room has touches of Christmas spirit — wreath, nativity scene — but doesn’t overdo it. Just hoping my Paperwhites bloom in time!

The true reason for the season…

Decor Tip: You don’t have to buy an entirely new set of Christmas-themed tableware for the big event… you can use what you have! If you think the scene needs a little spice, try adding an element of gold or silver. (Also, blue and white china is always a classic! This belongs to my mama, and I love it.)

Welcome to the family room, where our stockings are hung by the chimney with care. 🙂

Yes, we have a tree just for the kiddos and I L-O-V-E it. It’s the perfect place to hang their Christmas crafts, invite them to help with the decorating, and get creative with color and ornaments. I also love the bright colors!

Ahh, that candy-striped tulle is scrumptious!

Decor Tip: You might have seen these scattered throughout the photos so far, but holiday pillows instantly add merriment to your space. Always a go-to strategy!

Here’s a little kitchen table magic with silver snowflakes and a dough bowl full of Christmas cards from over the years.

Last but not least, don’t forget the kitchen! After all, if you’re hosting, chances are you’ll be spending some quality time in here. A cute hot chocolate-making station will guarantee you’ll have some company. 😉

And that’s the tour! You can see we love to embrace all forms of Christmas decor, from traditional and glamorous to creative and colorful. After all, if you can’t enjoy a little fun variety during the holidays, when can you??

On that note, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for spending some time with us this year.

It means the world to us, and I wish you nothing less than a spectacular holiday season with your loved ones!
